Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute

Event Proceedings
2nd Western Regional Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit

The North Dakota State University (NDSU), Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) was pleased to host the second Western Regional Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit. The Summit was co-hosted with the Colorado State Patrol, and was a hybrid event to allow for both in-person and virtual attendance. There were 230 total attendees from licensing and transportation agencies, academia, law enforcement, and industry, with 80 attendees in-person and about 150 virtual attendees. There were representatives from almost all of the western states and territories, and a few other states across the country as well.

The Summit shared research and best practices with a focus to improve data quality, the collection and use of CMV data, and ultimately to improve commercial vehicle safety. It highlighted ways states have worked to improve data quality, improve the ways they collect data, and/or new ways they are using the data.
