Abstract

This study examines different approaches for designing an optimal network for electric transit buses. Mathematical models will be developed that will design an optimal network while minimizing both operator and passenger costs and maximizing ridership. The research will also consider the costs of infrastructure required for electric buses and will design an optimal network for the placement of chargers and electric bus infrastructure.

This research will consider multiple problems and approaches, including the following:

  • Proposing a bi-level model to design an Electric Transit Route Network using Fuzzy Inference Systems and GIS: A case study of Fargo-Moorhead area
  • Proposing two meta-heuristic algorithms to design an Electric Transit Route Network of Fargo-Moorhead area
  • Optimizing charging locations of battery electric buses in designing an electric network by using queuing theory: A case study of Fargo-Moorhead area
