Intelligent Transportation Solutions: Smart Cities in the United Arab Emirates

Connected, automated, and autonomous vehicle technologies offer limitless potential. Sustaining their deployment and maintenance requires interdisciplinary knowledge of the technology fundamentals and their impacts on planning, policies and decision making.

Collaborating researchers at NDSU and UMS will:

  • Research and develop problem statements that are important to the region.
    • Topics could include mobility and accessibility, congestion, transportation enhancements and transportation security.
  • Research and identify technology packages, their benefits and their costs.
    • Researchers will examine both traditional and next-generation Intelligent Transportation Systems
  • Research and develop best practices and guidelines for sustainable deployment and maintenance.
    • Key areas will include stakeholder alignment; technology diversity; security and privacy; regulatory, policy and institutional issues; planning; practical issues; and funding and sustainability.
