Utah Asphalt Paving Association Honors Romero

MPC researcher Pedro Romero received the Friend of Industry Award from the Utah Asphalt Paving Association at its annual Utah Asphalt Conference February 27-28.

The honor recognizes individuals who exemplify and champion the spirit of public-private collaboration. The award recognizes the impact that Romero's research has had on elevating infrastructure standards in Utah's asphalt pavement sector.

Romero is an associate professor in the University of Utah Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and also serves as director for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the College of Engineering. He has been at the University since 2007. His research focuses on engineering material characterization and the evaluation of the sustainability and health of infrastructure systems with an emphasis in transportation infrastructure. He also helps evaluate new applications designed to extend the life of existing infrastructure systems. He is the principal investigator on several MPC projects related to improving pavement performance.
