UGPTI Helps Teach Students About Safety Around Commercial Trucks

Posted: Dec 7, 2023

Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute at NDSU helped promote safety around commercial motor vehicles at the Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo at the Fargodome November 30.

Mark Wolter, UGPTI's truck industry liaison, joined other volunteers from the North Dakota Motor Carriers Association to teach students at the event about the "No-Zone," the areas behind and beside a commercial truck where the truck driver has limited or zero visibility. The No-Zone was clearly illustrated through the use of a truck provided by Midland Garage Door, and with educational materials designed by UGPTI with funding from the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration.

Each year, nearly 4,000 students attend the Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo. The event is designed to promote various industries to 9th graders in Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo, and area rural public and private schools.
