CSU Student Honored for Sustainable Concrete WorkPosted: Apr 25, 2023 Colorado State University Ph.D. student Mohammad Teymouri was recently awarded the Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Research Award from the Slag Cement Association. The work was honored April 5 during the spring American Concrete Institute Convention in San Francisco. Teymouri's research is titled, "Effect of pH Reduction on Desorption of Bound Chlorides in Cement Pastes Containing Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag Exposed to De-icing and Anti-icing Salts." Teymouri is also one of three students to receive the 2022-2023 Dean's Fellowship from the College of Health and Human Sciences. Teymouri is in a joint program in the Construction Management and Civil and Environmental Engineering departments. The Dean's Fellowship provides a $20,000 grant for doctoral students to continue and expand their research into their respective fields. Teymouri is studying the impacts of de-icing and anti-icing salt solutions on concrete infrastructures. His work is focused on researching sustainable alternatives to de-icing and creating a more environmentally friendly concrete system. This project seeks to help increase the reliability and accuracy of service-life estimates of concrete infrastructures. Teymouri has been mentored by Mahmoud Shakouri, MPC researcher assistant professor in the CSU Department of Construction Management. |
