Student Team at University of Utah Designing Bike Corridor in Downtown Salt Lake City

Posted: Oct 2, 2020

A student design team at the University of Utah is designing a six-block corridor of bike lanes in Salt Lake City. MPC researcher Cathy Liu is the faculty mentor for the Civil and Environmental Engineering senior capstone project (4900 -- professional practice & design). The team of six students is designing environmentally friendly and sustainable bike lanes for 300 West, a major street in downtown Salt Lake City. The lanes will connect existing bicycle infrastructure at the north and to the south and will be compatible with the existing built environment along the route. Salt Lake City was awarded $2.8 million in state funds to design and construct the protected bike lanes along the corridor. The students are on track to achieve their goal of having the design 40% complete by the end of the fall semester.
