SURTC Staff Present Pilot Training on Transit Fare PolicyPosted: Apr 10, 2018 SURTC researcher Jeremy Mattson and SURTC training coordinator Rob Lynch conducted the pilot National Transit Institute (NTI) Fare Policy Training in Seattle March 29 and 30. SURTC has been heavily involved in developing the training for the NTI beginning with an initial curriculum meeting in Washington, D.C. last spring. SURTC director Jill Hough and NTI director Paul Larrouse were in Seattle to evaluate the training and recommend any modifications that might be needed. The training provides an overview of transit fare policy, including policy goals and objectives, fare structure, fare collection and emerging fare technologies. Participating transit managers and planners discussed the importance of fare policy, policy tradeoffs, pricing strategies and issues influencing fare decisions. The course also covers fare equity issues, public communication and outreach strategies and data needs. |
