Two NDSU staff members were recently recognized for their communications work by the Association for Communications Excellence.

Tom Jirik was part of a multi-state team that earned a silver award in the non-credit educational program category. The team developed training materials and a train-the-trainer workshop on media relations. Jirik was co-author of a chapter on writing news releases and columns. He is communications coordinator for the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.

Randy Wald earned a silver award in the video news and features category. Wald's winning entry was a video feature he taped and edited on the Red River Basin Institute's RiverWatch Program. Wald is an electronic media specialist with the Agriculture Communication Department. Agriculture Communication and the NDSU Extension Service are cooperators in the RiverWatch program. Wald coordinates communications and contributes to educational materials for the RiverWatch program.

The awards were announced at the association's annual international conference in Lake Tahoe, June 22-24.
