Smart Cards

A card the approximate size of a credit card which contains an embedded microprocessor which may enable a wide variety of applications, including transportation fare payments. The smart card uses a serial interface and receives its power from external sources like a card reader. The host computer and card reader communicate with the microprocessor. The most common uses for smart cards are: credit cards; electronic cash; computer security systems; wireless communication; banking; satellite tv; government identification; and transportation farecards.
