National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA)
A comprehensive federal law requiring analysis of the environmental impacts of federal actions such as the approval of grants. NEPA requires preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement for every major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment. A coordinated plan is also required which must have public involvement.
