Government Accountability Office (GAO)

The non-partisan audit, evaluation, and investigative arm of Congress. It is an agency in the Legislative Branch of the U.S. Government headed by the Comptroller General of the United States. The GAO examines the use of public funds, evaluates federal programs and activities, and provides analyses, options, recommendations, and other assistance to help Congress make effective oversight, policy, and funding decisions.
