Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)

A federal agency which administers funding appropriated by Congress for highway construction and improvements. The Federal Highway Administration is headquartered out of the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, DC. FHWA provides funding to state and local governments for highway construction and improvements. FHWA also regulates the safety of commercial motor vehicle operations (vehicles that require a CDL to drive). FWHA is the lead agency in federal intelligent transportation activities and regulated interstate transportation.
