Staff Bio

Leslie "Barney" Tomanek was born and raised in Mandan. He is a proud NDSU graduate with degrees in Criminal Justice and Business. He began his career with the North Dakota Department of Parole and Probation in 1981. His career started as a Parole and Probation Officer working actively supervising cases in the field, and concluded with serving the agency as the Director from 2007 until retiring in 2018. With his duties as Director, he had the opportunity to oversee 16 district offices throughout the state of North Dakota. He traveled extensively throughout the state and worked with many different people and agencies. That experience will be beneficial for his work as the Transit Inspector for the state.

Barney and his wife, Janel, reside in Dickinson where they enjoy the outdoors and chasing around their two grandsons.
