Transportation Technology Showcase Set for Oct. 7 at NDSU

Posted: Sep 17, 2021

Because of heightened concerns about the Delta variant, the Transportation Technology Showcase scheduled for October 7 at the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute has been postponed until spring. Thank you for your interest in UGPTI's work and we look forward to seeing you at the rescheduled event.

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute is scheduled to host a Transportation Technology Showcase Oct. 7 to highlight its research and collaboration with the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

The event is set for 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Quentin Burdick Building on the NDSU campus. A formal program at 12:30 will include introductions and an overview of the institute by director Denver Tolliver, and NDSU President Dean Bresciani will discuss the institute's role within the university.

NDDOT director Bill Panos will attend virtually and discuss the growing impact of technology in transportation and the role that the institute and NDSU will play in transportation's future.

"Computer modeling, traffic analysis, computer-aided design, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, big data analytics and other forms of technology are becoming a larger part of our research program," Tolliver said. "The showcase is a way for us to highlight the technology driving today's transportation systems and how our staff and students are working to develop and implement new technology applications."

Following the formal program, UGPTI will be open for visitors to view exhibits and demonstrations. Highlights will include:

  • Tools and techniques used to assist decision making on safety improvements and enforcement.
  • Live demonstration of proposed state-wide traffic management/data processing center in collaboration with the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
  • Examples of traffic analysis techniques implemented across the state and how they are used to improve safety, traffic flow and long-term planning.
  • Technology used in transit and research to improve personal mobility.
  • Examples of outreach and technical assistance to cities, counties, townships and tribes designed to help road managers maintain and improve local roads.
  • Statewide road and bridge investment needs assessments that integrate complex data collection, traffic modeling and analysis.
  • A student design center operated in conjunction with the North Dakota Department of Transportation that gives NDSU students hands-on experience in transportation-related information technology, application development and highway design projects.
  • A research and student-focused Advanced Traffic Analysis Center with focus areas in intelligent transportation systems, travel demand modeling and traffic operations.
