Dr. Medina has over fifteen years of experience in transportation engineering research gained through his doctoral studies and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, as well as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Utah since 2015. His research has a strong data-driven component and is focused on traffic safety and traffic control systems. Dr. Medina is the Principal Investigator for the Crash Data Initiative (UTAPS-CDI), a long-term effort to develop back-end, middleware, and web front tools aimed at unifying, hosting, and integrating crash-related data and analytics in the state of Utah. He has been involved either as a principal investigator or a key researcher on over 30 externally sponsored projects. Dr. Medina is also a certified professional in the administration of Microsoft SQL databases, and he is active in the transportation community, mostly through TRB committees and as a handling editor for the TRR journal.
