This paper evaluates the impact of various I-15 reconstruction closure scenarios on the travelers in the Ogden area. The purpose of the research was to investigate the impact of the scenarios and facilitate decisions about future maintenance of traffic during the reconstruction.

This paper presents preliminary results of the VISUM Online validation. It compares traffic conditions estimated by VISUM Online to measured data. The results show that VISUM Online produces comparable traffic measures.

This report is Phase II of a previous MPC research project (MPC 02-136) that developed a computer model using a transient, two-dimensional finite volume approach to mathematically describe the thermal response of asphalt pavements due to thermal environmental conditions on an hourly basis. The main objective...

Transportation is a vital national need and one of the areas of increased employment opportunities. Fostering student interest in transportation and transportation related areas of study is vital to our nation's future work force, and these arenas are rapidly becoming a popular career choice for undergraduate...

This report describes the results of examining the effects of weather exposure conditions on the connection details of the open deck timber trestle bridge. As an exploratory experimental study, the time dependent mechanical effects of moisture, temperature and humidity on a particular connection detail...

The main objective of this research was to quantify the differences and similarities among Quality Control/ Quality Assurance (QC/QA) programs for three state highway agencies. By measuring these differences, conclusions were drawn as to which state was achieving the best results with their QC/QA program....

In this study, the researchers evaluated the effectiveness of quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) specifications in decreasing hot mix asphalt (HMA) variability. A questionnaire was written to gather general information about the QC/QA specification programs that are being used in the United States...

A survey of the education and training needs was conducted and more than 2,000 questionnaire booklets were sent to highway contractors nationwide. Two hundred and eighteen responded. The objective of the survey was to determine the training and education needs of the construction industry and identify...

The present research suggests a new approach to the use of composite materials technology for repair of timber structural members. Due to the small aspect ratio of the typical railroad bridge span timbers, stiffness degradation can be related to decrease in the beam's shear performance. To rejuvenate...

Evaluation of Pavement Shoulders (May 1999, MPC-99-101)

In this study the researchers examined the effect of pavement shoulders on the safety and structural strength of highways in Wyoming. The costs of adding shoulders to various types of highways also was examined. The study consisted of selecting representative highway sections, collecting accident data...
