Caitlin Johnson is a Research Project Manager at the NDSU Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute. Caitlin is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the NDSU School of Education majoring in Adult and Occupational Education. She is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. She conducts research and outreach to promote safe and secure transportation, with focus on rural regions and tribal communities.

She has over seven years working in education and indigenous communities with a proficient background in research. As a Ph.D. Candidate, she has a background in coursework regarding mixed methods with knowledge using SPSS software. She has written numerous research papers and reports. As a tribal member of a federally recognized tribe, she has a strong understanding of cultural sensitivity and research with tribal nations. She has made several formal presentations on her research with Autism and Tribal Reservations, which has earned her national attention from the Clinton Global Initiative University.

Her research concentration has been in Indigenous Research Methodology and Critical Theory. She hopes to integrate her research background to assist with UGPTI research projects as they pertain to rural communities and Native American reservations.
