      1. Immediate Research Needs
        1. Decided that we need to have a research session to plan research that builds on productivity issues. The meeting should lead to one or more white papers on the following subjects:
          1. Regulation and productivity
          2. Capacity and productivity
          3. Safety and productivity
          4. Technology and productivity
        2. It was also decided that we need to more to disseminate information. Suggestions included creating a web site with presentations. We could also provide recommendations and literature reviews.
      2. TRB Annual Meeting 2002
        1. Several options were discussed, but no conclusion was reached. The options included:
          1. Joint meeting with existing committee
            • Urban Freight
            • Economics and Regulation
            • Size & Regulation
          2. More panel discussions focusing on relation between productivity and one or more of several topics:
            • Safety
            • Size & Weight
            • Cost
            • Infrastructure
          3. Focusing on our ability to bring industry to the table to discuss tough issues.

      No staff action was specifically requested at this meeting.
