UGPTI Associate Director Candidates to Present Seminars
Three candidates will participate in on-campus interviews for the position of associate director of the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute. Drs. Jill Hough and Kim Vachal will interview Tuesday, August 7, and Dr. Brenda Lantz will interview Wednesday, August 8.
As part of the interview process, each of the candidates will give a public seminar presentation titled "Helping Move UGPTI Forward" in IACC 422:

Dr. Jill Hough is the director of UGPTI's Small Urban & Rural Transit Center (SURTC), which focuses on research, education, and training for the public transportation industry. She has more than 20 years of transportation research experience and has published more than 45 reports and journal articles in the areas of public transportation, low-volume roads, logistics, and economic development. Her primary research areas presently relate to workforce development, mobility of the elderly and disadvantaged, as well as transit planning and management.
Dr. Kim Vachal is program director for the UGPTI's Rural Transportation Safety and Security Center which conducts research and outreach to promote traffic safety and transportation security. She is also program director for the institute's Agriculture, Energy, & Industrial Freight Center. That conducts economic analysis, transportation planning, and network analysis to improve the competitiveness of the region's producers and businesses through enhanced transportation, supply chain management and logistics. Vachal has more than 15 years of experience in transportation research, primarily in safety, agriculture, and freight mobility. In addition, she has worked with students as research assistants and in teaching courses in freight logistics, microeconomics, and international development economics. Her research concentration has been in public policy and economics. She has written over 50 research papers and authored several journal articles.
Dr. Brenda Lantz is program director of UGPTI's Transportation Safety Systems Center in Lakewood, CO. That center is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of software used by state and federal safety specialists nationwide. Lantz has been a researcher at UGPTI for more than 20 years. She specializes in the areas of intelligent transportation systems for commercial vehicle operations, business logistics and commercial vehicle safety - subjects on which she has authored and presented numerous articles.
